Writing in the Times, Alistair MacDonald, chairman of the Bar Council, urges voters to consider access to justice when they go to the ballot box on May 8th. “In reality, politicians will not realise that access to justice is worth a cross on the ballot unless we change urgently the terms of the debate,” he writes. He adds that voters have tended to take access to justice for granted, and says that cuts to legal aid funding and a rise in court fees make it a more pressing issue than at any other time.
