A new scheme from the Government will force anyone who is ill for more than four weeks to face a fit-for-work test as part of a clampdown on the “sick-note culture”. All GPs will be expected to refer patients to a company that will assess their ability to work and draw up a plan for their return. Lord Freud, minister for welfare reform, said the scheme was an important step in supporting employees, GPs and employers to manage sickness absence better.
