Scotland's top law firms
The Herald reports on Scotland's top law firms in its Lawyers 2014 supplement. The content is based on the research findings of Chambers UK and The Legal 500. The paper reviews the year so far, referring to M&A’s in the sector, such as the takeover by Thorntons Law of Kenneth Mackay and Linsey Barclay-Smith, and highlights noteworthy rankings and client recommendations. Pinsent Masons is listed at the top of the construction league table while Brodies is noted for its “very clear advice”. CMS fields a "highly professional, personable and consistent" construction group” and DLA Piper Scotland is depicted by clients as "knowledgeable and responsive". DWF has "a strong purchaser and supplier client base". Regarding public affairs, DLA is the only firm which has a solicitor personally appointed to the Scottish Parliament's drafting panel while policy insights at Pinsent Masons are described as “excellent”. In clinical negligence, Elaine Russell's team at Irwin Mitchell is praised for being “extremely professional and well organised" while personal injury specialist Gilbert Anderson at DAC Beachcroft Scotland is noted for being "so passionate about Scottish law that it is inspiring". Elsewhere, Shepherd and Wedderburn and Maclay Murray & Spens are identified as leaders in EU and competition work.
