Analysis of ONS figures by the TaxPayers' Alliance has found that the poorest 10% of households pay 47% of their gross income (£3,875 a year) in direct and indirect taxes while the wealthiest 10% of households (earning an average of £104,000 a year) paid an average of 35% of their gross income in taxes.
