The Committee on Standards in Public Life has suggested that newly elected MPs should learn the “seven commandments" of standards in public life before entering the House of Commons. The seven principles are selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Lord Bew, the committee's chairman, said: "More than ever, MPs need to be fully aware of the principles and the rules that guide their behaviour."
