Figures from the ONS show that men are now being paid in excess of 13% more than women across London, demonstrating a widening of the gender wage gap. For each pound paid to men per hour last year, women received 86.8p – a decrease from 89.1p a year ago. Experts have suggested that the trend is possibly being fuelled by bigger bonuses going to men in the City, combined with a growing number of women taking low-paid, part-time jobs. Shadow women’s minister Gloria De Piero said: “There are some great examples of companies that are leading the way in efforts to close the gap but delivering equal pay should be a priority for all employers.”
