Sheffield-based Broad Yorkshire Law has been heavily criticised for attempting to gain business on the back of the rollercoaster crash at Alton Towers. The firm sent the following tweet soon after the incident in which several people were seriously injured: “Been injured in a roller coaster crash?! We're experts in Personal Injury!! #Smiler #AltonTowers”. The tweet was removed and an apology issued, but not before twitter users had expressed their fury, accusing the firm of being “vultures” and “ambulance chasers”. Separately, Alan Bacon of BTMK said compensation awards for those hurt in the accident could be "very significant". Commenting on claims that one victim may lose a foot, he said: "The damages for one leg amputated below the knee are between £79,000 and £107,000. There is no cap for payments."
