Drinking whilst pregnant could be criminalised

Women who drink alcohol while pregnant could face prosecution if their babies are born with foetal alcohol spectrum disorder, according to papers lodged with a judge hearing a case brought by an unnamed council. The British Pregnancy Advisory Service and legal charity Birthrights are seeking to address the court over concerns the case could set a precedent and lead to pregnant women being treated differently from other legally competent persons.
