Data-handling warning for legal professionThe Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is warning barristers and solicitors they face fines as high as £500,000 if they put their clients' data at risk, following a number of recent data-protection errors in the legal profession. Information commissioner Christopher Graham said 15 incidents have been reported to the data watchdog in the past three months. “That number is troubling,” he stated. The ICO has cautioned against sending information by email and advised that the use of encryption technologies should become standard practice.
