The British Dance Council is to vote on a new rule that partnerships for all amateur and professional dance competitions must be “one man and one lady” in future, unless otherwise stated. The governing body said that it was acting after complaints that men dancing together had an unfair advantage in terms of their strength and physique. Same-sex dancers are seeking legal advice on whether the proposed rules breach equality laws, claiming that physical strength is not a key attribute for success.
