Gateley has warned that companies could have to buy specialist office furniture or pay for dietary advice for overweight workers, if a European court rules that obesity-related problems constitute a disability. Employment partner Chris Thompson said: “There is a danger that people reading this case might make the assumption that at a certain level of obesity, they will get protection in the workplace.” Elsewhere, Ellen Temperton of Lewis Silkin writes to the Observer to emphasise that claims of discrimination may ensue, depending on the outcome of the case.
