A list has been compiled by Lake Legal of the top ten places in Britain with the highest divorce rates - and they’re all beside the sea. The study of statistics in the last census puts Blackpool at the top of the list with a 13.13% chance of marriage failure followed by Hastings in East Sussex with 12.83% and Torbay in Devon, Weymouth and Portland in Dorset, and Thanet in Kent. Lyn Ayrton, managing partner at the family law practice, said: “While seaside towns can be lovely places to live, they are often areas of high deprivation. Often money problems rather than infidelity lead to behaviour that is then cited as the reason for divorce.” The research also revealed the places in Britain with the lowest divorce rates. The top three are Harrow, North-West London (5.41%), Tower Hamlets, East London (5.65%), East Dunbartonshire, Scotland (5.94%).
